Prayer is a means of communication between ourselves and our heavenly father Jehovah. It is our wireless cell phone, so to speak, with unlimited minutes and long distance! We are to pray without ceasing. Is prayer something we do in public to be seen of men, or is it a private matter? Jesus set an example for us on how to pray and how not to pray!
Luke 11:1 " And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples." ( THE DISCIPLES OF JESUS DID NOT HAVE A CLUE HOW THEY SHOULD PRAY. )
Matthew 6: 5-6 " vs.5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
vs.6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and the Father which seeith in secret shall reward thee openly." ( PRAYER IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE DONE IN PRIVATE. IT IS A PRIVATE CONVERSATION BETWEEN US AND THE FATHER JEHOVAH. HAVE YOU BEEN TO A CHURCH BUILDING AND STOOD INSIDE PRAYING ALONG WITH EVERYONE ELSE? WHAT DOES THE SCRIPTURE SAY THAT YOU ARE WHEN YOU DO THIS? THE NEXT TIME YOU PRAY, GO TO A PRIVATE PLACE AND POUR OUT YOUR HEART TO THE FATHER, AND THE FATHER WHICH SEEITH IN SECRET WILL REWARD YOU OPENLY! )
Matthew 14:23 " And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone." ( JESUS SENDS THE GROUP AWAY AND THEN GOES OFF ALONE TO PRAY IN PRIVATE TO FATHER JEHOVAH )
Psalm 5:3 " My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up." ( OUR PRAYER SHOULD BE DIRECTED TOWARDS FATHER JEHOVAH AS WE LOOK UPWARDS. )
John 17:1 " These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son may also glorify thee. ( JESUS LIFTED HIS EYES TO HEAVEN. HE DID NOT HAVE THEM CLOSED. )
Do you close your hands together when you pray? Do you close your eyes when you pray? If you answered yes, why? Is it something you learned in the bible or did somebody teach you? The Old Testament gives us more clues on how we should pray. Do you see how easy it is to be wrong about something in which you were sure was right all along? We are to rightly divide the word of truth!
Exodus 9:29 " And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the Lord; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know that the earth is the Lord's." ( MOSES IS SPEAKING OF WHAT HE IS GOING TO PRAY FOR AND HOW HE WILL PRAY. NOTICE THAT HE DOES NOT CLOSE HIS HANDS AS MAINSTREAM RELIGION TEACHES, BUT HE SPREADS THEM. )
Exodus 9:33 " And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto the Lord: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth." ( MOSES HAS HIS PRAYER ANSWERED! )
1 Kings 8:22&54 " Vs. 22 And Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven.
Vs. 54 And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the Lord, he arose from between the altar of the Lord, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven. " ( IN VERSE 22 SOLOMON IS STANDING AND PRAYING WITH HIS HANDS SPREAD TOWARD HEAVEN. IN VERSE 54 HE IS KNEELING ON HIS KNEES. IN BOTH INSTANCES HE HAS HIS HANDS SPREAD UP TO HEAVEN, NOT CLOSED. WE CAN STAND OR KNEEL WHEN WE PRAY, BUT WE MUST SPREAD OUR HANDS TOWARD HEAVEN IN RESPECT FOR OUR HEAVENLY FATHER JEHOVAH! )
2 Chronicles 6:13 " For Solomon had made a brazen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven." ( SOLOMON WAS VERY CONSISTENT IN THE WAY THAT HE PRAYED. )
Ezra 9:5 " And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the Lord my God." ( JESUS, MOSES, AND SOLOMON WEREN'T THE ONLY ONES WHO KNEW HOW TO PRAY TO JEHOVAH. EZRA ALSO KNEW THE IMPORTANCE OF SPREADING OUT HIS HANDS TO THE LORD! SHOULDN'T WE FOLLOW THEIR EXAMPLE? )
Isaiah 1:15 " And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood." ( CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF, JEHOVAH DOES NOT LISTEN TO THE PRAYERS OF THE WICKED. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR HEART IS RIGHT IN THE SIGHT OF GOD AND THAT YOU ARE DOING YOUR BEST TO LIVE A GOD FEARING CHRISTIAN LIFE. HERE WE SEE THAT JEHOVAH ALSO KNOWS HOW WE SHOULD PRAY TO HIM WITH OUR HANDS SPREAD. )
Mark 11:24-26 " Vs.24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Vs.25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
Vs.26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses." ( WE MUST HAVE COMPLETE FAITH WHEN WE PRAY AND BELIEVE THAT OUR PRAYERS WILL BE ANSWERED IF WE EXPECT TO RECEIVE A BLESSING. IT IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT BEFORE ASKING FOR FORGIVENESS, TO THINK OF ANYBODY THAT YOU MAY BE ANGRY AT, HOLD A GRUDGE AGAINST, OR SOMEBODY THAT MAY HAVE HURT YOU DEEPLY, AND SIMPLY FORGIVE THAT PERSON OR PERSONS! THIS CAN BE A VERY HARD THING TO DO, BUT IF WE ARE TO EXPECT FORGIVENESS WHEN WE PRAY, THEN WE MUST FORGIVE! )
1 Peter 3:12 " For the eyes of the Lord are over the Righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: But the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. " ( The Lord closes his ears to the prayers of the wicked. The prayers of the righteous are heard. )
